The aging process can cause patients to develop loose or sagging skin and wrinkles in the jawline and neck area. Fortunately, Frank W. Shagets, M.D. offers neck lift surgery at our fully accredited surgical center to dramatically improve patients' appearance. Dr. Shagets is a board-certified facial plastic surgeon practicing in Joplin, MO, with over three decades of experience. He uses precise, individually tailored contouring techniques to achieve natural-looking results and help you achieve a more youthful appearance.

Neck lift surgery can be performed with small incisions to produce natural-looking results with minimal scarring.

What is Neck Lift Surgery?

Neck lift is a type of facial cosmetic surgery that improves sagging and other concerns in and around the neck area. Although it is often overlooked, the neck is one of the more prominent places on the body to exhibit signs of aging. Significant weight loss, sun damage, and genetic predisposition can also contribute to early aging. While caring for your face, you should also diligently and actively care for your neck during your morning and nightly skincare regimen.

When undergoing this procedure, you can eliminate the appearance of excess skin and fat for a beautifully contoured jawline. This procedure is often combined with a full face lift and liposuction for the most dramatic results.

Determining Your Candidacy

You may be a good candidate for neck lift surgery if you:

  • Are between the ages of 40 and 60
  • Are in good overall health
  • Have good skin elasticity
  • Have a double chin or jowls
  • Have loose, excess neck skin

What to Expect During Neck Lift Surgery

A neck lift is considered one of the safest, most dramatic, and transformative procedures in cosmetic surgery. The procedure can be performed with small incisions to produce natural-looking results with minimal scarring.

During your initial consultation, Dr. Shagets will perform a detailed exam to ensure you are healthy enough to undergo neck lift surgery. He will review the entire procedure with you, and discuss the costs involved. You will also have plenty of time to discuss questions and concerns.

A neck lift is considered one of the safest, most dramatic, and transformative procedures performed in the cosmetic medical industry.

To begin your procedure, one of our qualified nurse anesthetists will administer anesthesia to ensure your comfort. Dr. Shagets will make small, discreet incisions behind the ears and under the chin. Using liposuction, he will remove excess fat deposits, then reposition the tissue and muscle, tighten skin, and trim any excess. Chin implants can also be combined with this procedure to give you a more prominent jawline and profile.

Once the sutures are in place, he will place bandages and compression garments to assist with swelling. The overall procedure generally takes one to two hours and recovery lasts about a week. Although you will notice a difference once swelling decreases, it can take up to six months for results to be fully revealed. Dr. Shagets will monitor you carefully over the course of your recovery to ensure you are healing properly.

My results are fantastic. Dr. Shagets is a profectionist, which I love. He is very gentle and thorough. He even came in on a Saturday to check out a concern I had... it was only a stitch! I would highly recommend Dr. Shagets. P.H. - verified patient
