Enhance Your Facial Features with Chin Implants

Dr. Frank W. Shagets offers chin implants at his Joplin, MO, practice for patients who want to improve the size and shape of their chin. A weak chin can impact your overall facial composition, and chin augmentation may help you achieve younger, more symmetrical features. In addition to the aesthetic benefits that chin implants can provide, you can also achieve a heightened sense of confidence in your enhanced look. Dr. Shagets performs all cosmetic surgeries out of his fully accredited surgical facility, the only facility of its kind in the four state area.

Candidates for Chin Implants

Chin implants may be an appropriate procedure for you if you feel that your chin is disproportionate to the rest of your facial features. The procedure is popular with both men and women. A small chin can make your nose appear larger and create premature sagging in the neck. Both of these concerns can be addressed with chin implants to restore facial proportion and balance.

Chin implants can permanently restore symmetry and balance to your facial features.

As with any surgical procedure, we will first evaluate your overall health to determine whether you are a good candidate for surgery. If you have taken certain medications for acne treatment, anticoagulants, or have been diagnosed with cardiac issues, make sure to alert the doctor about these medications or conditions.

Your Initial Consultation

Prior to your procedure, you will have an initial consultation with Dr. Shagets to discuss your desired outcomes and goals for the surgery. Depending on your cosmetic concerns and expectations, you may decide to combine chin implants with other procedures such as rhinoplasty to best achieve your desired aesthetics and provide the most dramatic results.

Chin implants are made of a synthetic material called silicone, which has been widely used for body and facial enhancement for over 40 years. Chin implants are similar to the size and shape of a football helmet chin guard, and will be carved and modified by Dr. Shagets for a personalized fit that looks completely natural.

Before and after chin implants

Chin Augmentation Surgery

Chin augmentation surgery usually lasts 45 minutes to two hours. To ensure optimal comfort, local and general anesthesia will be supplied prior to beginning the procedure. Dr. Shagets will first make an incision on either the inside of your mouth where your gums meet your bottom lip or under your chin.

Once the small incision is made, the doctor will carefully insert the implant and position it between the jawbone and skin. Throughout the process, we will ensure that the implant adds proper balance to your facial features and make modifications as necessary to best achieve your desired outcome. Once the implant has been inserted, the doctor may use sutures or small screws to secure it in place. He will use sutures or surgical tape to close the incisions and apply garments to aid in the healing process.

During the recovery period, swelling, bruising, and difficulty eating solid foods are common but these side effects should subside within the week. Patients should closely follow recovery protocols to reduce the risk of infection or complications. In either incision location, the fully healed scars will be virtually undetectable.

My results are fantastic. Dr. Shagets is a profectionist, which I love. He is very gentle and thorough. He even came in on a Saturday to check out a concern I had... it was only a stitch! I would highly recommend Dr. Shagets. P.H. - verified patient
